A Heap of Anime News Dropped During the Festive Season
The winter break offer a wealth of pastimes far superior than catching up on the latest news: discovering surprises, indulging in festive fare, and harnessing deep breathing to not yelling at family members. Hopefully you managed to accomplish all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling news items came out during the festive period, and just in case you didn't see a few, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Perhaps the most shocking piece of news, the widely-criticized controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to deter more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which might be a hopeful indicator. But, the main art for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, by now, they must be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now everyone is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in production, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
A further studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season
Immediately following the release of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara.
