Warning: spoilers ahead - This article reveals details from The Celebrity Traitors conclusion

Over the course of the show, audiences saw eliminations, double-crosses, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that cut through the overwhelming tension.

Yet on Thursday night, the final winner of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.

Out of nineteen participants, only five remained: Deceivers and loyal players facing off for the prize.

Soon, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.

Ultimately, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the winner, in a shocking outcome that broke the internet and made him tearful.

"It's been tearing me apart, I'm so sorry," he declared, admitting to the other players that he'd always been a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."

"You did brilliantly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."

Social media immediately exploded with the news. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," commented a viewer.

"It couldn't have been a more iconic ending," wrote another, while a third called it "the TV moment of the year."

His chosen charity, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep the entire winnings, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.

The comedian's evolution from comic relief to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the series.

However, his victory still shocked viewers in shock, according to industry observers.

"The thought of him, among everyone, executing an expert performance in deception felt just as probable as him keeping a straight face through his comedy routines."

During follow-up conversations, the other contestants explained the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.

"He might have come down to breakfast in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," one participant said.

"Most people didn't target him because how does one eliminate a person so charming?" questioned another celebrity.

Carr said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the program.

"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would work again!"

Traitors alliance Alan Carr and Cat Burns
Two traitors swore an oath to support one another - but Burns still was eliminated

The final installment was extended to 70 minutes on television. There was a different start than typical episodes, as all the celebs knew who'd make it at the morning gathering.

There was some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as we recapped some moments from every remaining player's experience in the game.

As ever, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.

"To be honest, I started the competition a bit of an anxious mess. I've betrayed some really good friends to save myself, I've eliminated national treasures openly. I'm clearly more deceptive and traitor than I thought."

At the same time, a different player commented that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for England", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.

In the beginning of the finale, several players seemed to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the castle, taking over from the previously eliminated style leader.

Carr emerged at the morning meal resembling a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.

However, he got out-jacketted by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. What a look.

Next up was the competition, with the final players getting on board a train named - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.

This task saw them ripping up portraits of former contestants. Have sympathy for a player who was hit on the head multiple times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.

Soon after, it was time for the elimination discussion.

Two traitors did a pinky promise in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've come a long way, I'm not going to betray him," said a player, while the other just giggled.

And one adhered to their agreement. Yet, managing to stay under the radar for the majority of the competition, the other still got the most votes.

The last deceiver looked like he was in a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, a rudderless ship."

Social media and viewers were equally disappointed.

"I did NOT want this contestant to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," commented a commentator.

"You will forever be remembered in Traitors history," posted a different viewer.

However, there remained no time to dwell on this departure. Soon, they were at the final stage - which was the moment everyone anticipated.

The final four stood over the fire pit. And the alliance broke down, just when it mattered the most, in a truly WTF moment.

A player was painfully banished - following a surprising decision from their partner, who turned against them.

"This pains me to be stabbed in the back last minute like that," remarked the eliminated player. Later, we learned that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player refers to the other by a betrayer's name.

Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the final trio.

One player, looking incredibly smug, voted to end the competition. So did a different player, and it all came down to the third, who did the same - which meant that the traitor emerged victorious.

According to commentators, the moment where the other players comforted the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it will be in the running for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they commented.

Happily, the champion quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate the moment.

"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and now I stand the champion," the winner said.

He also made light of that infamous murder - his close ally during the initial stages - by leaning toward the presenter in the final scene and making contact.

"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.

The last few weeks of famous people scheming, scheming and sometimes unexpected moments may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. But it really did all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
